On Thursday 26th May, some of London’s most press-worthy and exciting chefs united under one roof, the new Street Feast venue Hawker House in Canada Water, cooked Michelin-starred quality dishes street-food style for the fourth annual Auction Against Hunger in aid of Action Against Hunger.
I was invited down to capture some of the atmosphere as well as the dishes, eating them afterwards was an added bonus.
This year's Auction Against Hunger brought the World’s Greatest Menu to London for one night only. Some of Britain’s best chefs including Francesco Mazzei (Sartoria), Hamish Brown (ROKA), Jack Stein (The Seafood Restaurant), James Lowe (Lyle's), Jose Pizarro (Pizarro Restaurant), Lee Tiernan (Black Axe Mangal), Neil Rankin (The Smokehouse), Nieves Barragán-Mohacho (Barrafina), Nuno Mendes (Chiltern Firehouse), Robin Gill (The Dairy), and Shaun Searley (Quality Chop House) came together with the capital’s most talented street food traders including B.O.B.’s Lobster, Born & Raised, Breddos, Rola Wala, Smokestak, and Yum Bun for an evening of superb food, great drinks and lots and lots of auction lots.
Action Against Hunger hosts the night in collaboration with Street Feast. Over the past four years, Auction Against Hunger has raised over £320,000 to help support Action Against Hunger’s work saving the lives of malnourished children and providing families with access to safe water and good nutrition.
This year's 16-dish strong menu includes Cuttlefish Croquetas with fennel aioli from Barrafina; The Quality Chop House and The Dairy will together create Barbecued Denver Steak with confit potato, fennel kimchi and burnt cream; Lamb Heart Kebabs from Lyle’s and two brand new dishes created by Breddos in collaboration with Nuno Mendes - grab a friend and go sharesies on their Pork Tacos with pecan mole and bay leaf yogurt and Tamale Verde de Credo y Pipian. PLUS Shake Shack are providing non-stop burgers and fries if you’ve still got room.
As well as a silent auction throughout the evening, guests can bid on some brilliant experiences in a live auction hosted by Christie’s. An online auction will also take place on London foodie website Hot Dinners in the weeks running up to the event.
