/ Talented Mr Fox @ Showdown
The incredible Mr Matt Whiley otherwise known as Talented Mr Fox has recently set up a new bar to rung alongside The Town Hall Hotel's Peg + Patriot. SHOWDOWN opened on the 5th of august below Marylebone's The Lockhart. Matt has created cocktails to run alongside the Lockhart's Brad McDonalds's Southern American food menu such as the toasted marshmallow infused fizzy Pina Colada. Honestly it tastes like Alcoholic Disneyland.
/ Esquire: Far Flung Cocktails
Far-Flung Cocktails for adventurous barflies, each discovered by a master British mixologist.
This month sees more work for Esquire UK. I was invited along to shoot some of London's top cocktail bars who are making cocktails with ingredients from around the world.
/ Russell Norman / Mackerel Tartare
My latest work shooting Russell Norman for this months Esquire. This month Russell talks about the reasons chefs can be obsessed and, well, slightly peculiar. As well as discussing food in season and the joys of summer.
To celebrate the seasonal ingredients of summer, Russell makes Polpo favourite Mackerel Tartare with Sardinian flatbread.
/ KFC
I was recently commissioned by BBH and Design Bridge to shoot this advertising and in store work for Kentucky Fried Chicken. The brief was hands grabbing chicken from the small Chicken Share buckets we were promoting. Special thanks to Shoot Group on this one as I know they worked tirelessly to see this through.
/ Theo Randall for Shortlist: 14 Minute Meals
I was lucky enough to be invited to London's Intercontinental Hotel by Shortlist to shoot the delightful Theo Randall. Theo was making a super speedy Bruschetta to trump Jamie's Fifteen Minute Meals. The idea was to make something in 14 minutes - Theo nailed this beauty in four. Yes... Four!
/ Russell Norman / Bigoli in Salsa
Each month 'Restaurant Man' Russell Norman creates a deceptively simple recipe to accompany his column The Reluctant Cook. This month it's a dish for those days where you realise you have nothing left in the cupboards: Bigoli In Salsa.
/ Street Feast
The sun has been shining and I've been lucky enough to escape the studio & soak up some rays shooting for one of my newest clients, Street Feast. London Union have booked me to shoot the food, the vendors and the punters across their three venues in Lewisham, Dalston and Shoreditch as their outdoor food markets quickly become a hang out hot spot for London.
/ Russell Norman / Caprese Salad
In this months food column Russell Norman talks photographing food; I took the accompanying pictures so no pressure! He also makes an Italian classic: Insalata Caprese.
/ Honest Brunch
Honest Burgers have just related their bunch menu, at the centre of which sit classics such as the ‘Honest Brunch’; an individual tray including chipotle bacon beans, bubble & squeak and the Ginger Pigs’ award-winning Cumberland sausages to name a few. Alongside the classics, we’ve gone a little off-piste pairing up new punchy flavours such as chorizo and Honest guacamole, piled onto toasted sourdough.
Brunch is served in Clapham/Tooting on weekends from 9.30am — 1pm and in Liverpool Street on weekdays between 8.30am — 11am.
/ Milan
During a recent commission in Milan I took an afternoon out to have a stroll around the streets and shoot a little bit of the place. Shooting from the hip with a 50mm prime I got back in touch with my inner Martin Parr. I haven't shot like this since my student days and it was a great joy to get a feel for again.
/ David Reviews Interview
When the lovely people at P For Production told DAVID that they'd added food specialist Scott Grummett to their roster of directors, we decided it was the ideal opportunity to find out more about the skills required to create appetising banquets for the small screen.
So we spoke to him about how he ended up doing what he's doing and asked him to reveal a few tricks of the trade. We found him to be a charming interlocutor with some fascinating insights - and you can't ask for more of an interviewee than that.
/ Sketch
I was contacted by the marketing team at Sketch, a quirky 18th century Mayfair teahouse that transforms into a cocktail bar and Michelin star restaurant each evening. Sketch is definitely one of the more interesting destinations I have had to shoot at recently and must be seen to be believed. The giant eggs in the bathroom complete with quacking ducks are a particular piece of interest for anyone who has not been.
Sketch commissioned me to shoot their afternoon tea in the unbelievably chic gallery room. It felt like it had been interior designed by Lady Penelope and the Spring/Summer afternoon tea was to die for.
/ Esquire: Russell Norman / The Reluctant Cook 1
This month Esquire Magazine has relaunched itself with a brand new look. The issue also announces Esquire's brand new food writer Restaurant Man, Russell Norman.I was lucky enough to be invited to Russell's beautiful South London family home to shoot the next six issues for his column The Reluctant Cook.
/ Warburtons / Creative Combinations
I've been working up to a spot with Warburtons for some time with several scripts coming to my door. I was delighted to finally work with Sarah and Gavin at WCRS on this online film for thins. The brief was to do something completely new for the Warburtons look, keeping it fresh and contemporary. We had four recipes to showcase in a very small space of time so it's more of a flavour of ideas than a full instructional. I'm really pleased with the results, it's live on Warburtons' social media channels now.
This was filmed back in February 2015.
/ Weight Watchers / Superbowl Commercial
I was extremely excited to see the brand new Weight Watchers commercial air during the Superbowl in the USA. I was commissioned by Wieden Kennedy Portland to direct some of (not all of) the shots of the full ad.In addition they also licensed some of the Creme Brûlée shots too. It's a superb bit of creative from WK. Great work also from my Production company at the time P for Production to deliver this over the Christmas period.
/ Honest Burgers Clapham
At the end of 2014 Honest Burgers opened a new restaurant on Clapham's Venn Street (Clapham Common Tube). It has their usual rustic fitting and trademark green. They have done a fine job as ever.
I was commissioned to shoot some new breakfast menu items, here's a couple below. Rolling out in Clapham at weekends is the Full English Breakfast Platter - perfect for two to share, a portion for one is also available. Then there's the Honest Beans (some gorgeous pancetta, onions, herbs and secret sweet but smokey sauce there) on Guinness eggy bread. Delightful.
/ Soho House Cocktails
At the end of 2014 I was commissioned by the Soho House group to shoot two films teaching you how to make two of their house cocktails, The Soho Negroni and the Eastern Standard. We shot in Pizza East in the Tea building in Shoreditch as Tom Kerr taught us the delicacies of french bitters. Then in Shoreditch Houses Library Bar where Lauren Shaw showed us the fine art of cucumber muddling and cocktail shaking.
/ Honest Burgers Brunch
In addition to some brand new specials Honest have a new site and a new breakfast menu. Have a look at the amazing new site in Widegate Street E1, about 5mins walk from London Liverpool Street station.
With the new site comes a new breakfast menu rolling out from today in the Liverpool Street site only. I've been holding onto these images for some time but I can finally show you these treats.
/ Honest Burgers Specials
I've been back shooting for one of my favourite clients Honest Burgers. I ate here before I started working for them and i've only eaten there more since we have started working together, in short... I love this place.
We've been photographing their latest and a few more future specials. Last month was the Oktoberfest special and this month is the Spicy Mexican special
